Recently, a workshop on "Improving Energy Efficiency and Energy Management in Industrial Companies" was organized by the Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina / Education Sector and the Center for Energy, Environment and Resources (CENER 21).
More than 30 participants of the workshop has shown the interest in proposed topic. Interactive discussion has confirmed that improving energy efficiency and introducing an energy management systems are the key tools for achieving competitiveness of companies in the demanding international market. Once again, it was stated that in order to achieve the competitiveness it is necessary to have continuous education of employees at all levels, making them a key drivers of development.
The topics presented and discussed at the workshop included:
A review of relevant EU and BiH energy efficiency legislation, relevant to companies and large energy consumers;
The energy audit procedure as a first step in the energy saving process;
Financing sources and benefits which can support activities to improve energy efficiency and increase competitiveness in the manufacturing sector;
The requirements of the ISO 50001 standard, the implementation procedure and its importance.
During the workshop, the participants have presented a number of specific cases that are directly related to their energy management systems and shared experiences of how others do it.
The conclusion of the workshop implies that in the forthcoming period it is necessary to conduct active education in the field of energy efficiency in order for companies to reduce the costs related to energy consumption and thus increase the competitiveness of their products. Particular focus should be on interpreting legal provisions related to the industry, businesses and large consumers in the context of conducting energy audits together with energy efficiency improvement plans.
